“It was an honor and a privilege serving as your Director of Public Works for the past 15 years,” says City of Fairfield’s Director of Public Works, Clyde Woods (right). “It’s time for a change and to allow the younger employees to step up and take over.”

Woods announced his retirement at the July 8th City Council Meeting. His last day is this Friday, July 18, 2025.

Appointed as Interim Director of Public Works is James Jones (left), who has been with the city for several years, serving in the Public Works department.

During the meeting, Council approved for the City Attorney to prepare for the hiring of a new City Administrator. The city has been without an Administrator for the past few years, splitting the duties between the Director of Public Works and the City Secretary. Once preparations are finalized, the city will begin accepting applicants for the position.

Councilwoman, Place 5, Angela Oglesbee was appointed Mayor Pro-Tem and will be tasked with filling in for the Mayor as needed.

Also at this meeting, the council approved:

–Grant Works to research and apply for various grants that may be beneficial to the city as pertains to emergency management.

–City Secretary, Misty Richardson, to represent the city in working with Texas Parks & Wildlife regarding the local park grant program, which is looking to bring a new restroom and small splash pad to the city park.

–Bid & Financing proposals for the Fairfield Economic Development Corporation for the completion of Old Mexia Road and Cottonwood Creek Drive in the Industrial Park.

Fairfield City Council meets on the second Tuesday of each month, starting at 5:30 p.m. at City Hall, located at 527 E. Commerce Street in Fairfield.
