Thoughts from the Editor
Congrats to the Freestone County Times staff for placing in this year’s Better Newspaper Contest, sponsored by Texas Press Association.
The newspaper was awarded 3rd place in advertising, and 4th place in both Editorials and Sports Coverage.
“Fluid thought” and “clear voice” were the comments on two submitted editorials.
Our favorite comments from the judges came from the Sports Coverage category.
“Lots to like — lots of photos, good photos, and I love that you ignore the grid when it suits,” wrote judges. “Keep doing great things!”
We love that kind of encouragement.
Thanks to our sports photographers for always providing great content. Jennifer Lansford for Wortham, Jessica Risken for Teague, and Natalia V. Marsters for Fairfield.
Sportswriter Scott Batts always has us covered, and Content Manager Nicole Schaefer does a great job in making sure we don’t miss anything.
Of course, we couldn’t do what we do without the support of our Sales Executive Sherry Fagan. She definitely helps us “keep the lights on.”
And, in case I haven’t said it in a while, thanks to our Distribution guy, Spencer Hancock, for making sure we always make it to the newsstands on time.
Proud of our crew!
We faced some stiff competition from our fellow Texas newspapers, as this year’s submissions were extraordinary.
