Four generations of the Haynie Tyus Family gathered at the Tyus Cemetery over Memorial Day weekend. The Tyus family celebrated the 150-year-old Tyus Cemetery and the 2023 designated Historic Texas Cemetery.

The Tyus Cemetery was established on September 21, 1875, with the death of Robert Malone Tyus. Robert was born March 11, 1811, in Virginia; went westward and settle in Tennessee in 1833; and then to the Republic of Texas in 1836 and fought at the Battle of Jacinto. With the granted 640 acres, Robert settled in 1847 on the Trinity River in Freestone County.

“The Legacy of Robert Malone Tyus” family history book will be published in June 2025.

 

CELEBRATING THE 150-YEAR-OLD cemetery are members of the Tyus Family (l-r) Trey Brewer, Emilee Brewer, Ronnie Brewer II, Kaytlyn Brewer, Kelly Tyus, Ana Lucko, Belle Lucko, James Tyus, Donna Tyus Schaufert, Renee Brewer Isom, Michelle Ashley with son Xavien, and Kerry Lucko with son Milo. Seated is Brittany Ashley Busch with sons Dean and Wyatt. Unable to attend were Heather Tyus Taylor and daughters Meagan Hogan and Allison Hogan.
