Additional Counties May Follow, as resolution speaks to actions in conflict with Republican Party principles

The Bosque County Republican Party unanimously voted to censure State Rep. Angelia Orr.
“Orr’s attitude appears to be she can win reelection in House District 13 without Bosque County Republican voters — we plan to disabuse her of that notion during the 2026 Republican Primary,” wrote Bosque County GOP Chair Al Poteet.
The party sent Orr its resolution and a conveyance letter last week.
Poteet also followed up with Orr Wednesday via email for a response, as she has seven days to respond under the newly revised Texas Republican Party Rule 44.
Bosque is forwarding its resolution without Orr’s reply to the State Republican Executive Committee, which will decide the resolution’s fate along with that of other representatives who also received county-level censures this session.
So far, the Tarrant County GOP has censured Rep. John McQueeney (R–Fort Worth), and the Dallas County GOP censured Reps. Morgan Meyer (R–Dallas) and Angie Chen Button (R–Garland).
Under Rule 44, if three-fifths of the SREC uphold the censure resolutions, the county chairs and Texas GOP Chairman Abraham George may refuse these representatives’ applications for any office on the 2026 Republican primary ballot.
The prior version of the party’s censure rule lacked the power to block censured representatives from applying for candidacy in the Republican primary election. Had it been in effect, Bosque County’s unanimous vote to censure Orr after she voted to impeach Attorney General Ken Paxton could have prevented her from running this legislative session.
Leon County GOP Chairwoman Carol Milder said her party will also be voting to censure Orr, but that it is still drafting the official resolution paperwork. Members chose to wait until the end of this legislative session to see if they wish to add anything else to Orr’s censurable actions.
Milder stated that the Leon County GOP’s resolution will likely be very similar to Bosque’s.
“She has seen this coming,” Milder said. “She’s not going to be surprised.”
Bosque’s resolution alleges Orr violated Legislative Priority 4 to Ban Democrat Chairs by voting for State Rep. Jared Patterson’s (R–Frisco) motion to end debate on the new House rules allowing Democrat vice chairs and by voting for the overall rules package.
The group also claims Orr violated Legislative Priority 7, “Texas is Not For Sale,” when she voted for Rep. Matt Shaheen’s (R–Plano) amendment to SB 17 that allowed foreign nationals from countries like China, Iran, and Russia to buy land in Texas as long as they are here on a valid visa.
Last year, Orr walked out with 25 other Republicans during a House Caucus meeting to deny a quorum for the speaker vote. Then she voted against the Republican Caucus’ candidate for speaker by supporting State Rep. Dustin Burrows (R–Lubbock). The Bosque GOP claimed she violated the party’s platform to vote as a “unified body” and Principle 5 of personal accountability and responsibility.
The party also stated that when State Rep. Brian Harrison (R–Midlothian) revealed the absences of many legislators during a voice verification vote, Orr violated Principle 5 when she allowed an unauthorized electronic quorum call vote to be cast in her absence.
“The Bosque GOP is beyond troubled by House District 13 Representative Orr’s radical departure from our conservative principles as well as her ongoing shenanigans and key anti-conservative votes in concert with not only RINOs but Democrats in Austin,” Poteet wrote to Texas Scorecard. “Bosque GOP is actively supporting an opposition candidate that will announce a run for House District 13 against Angelia Orr on June 12th.”
“I believe SREC has given the county chairs a tool for our toolbox,” said Milder in support of the censure. “It’s hard to get rid of an incumbent that has the name recognition.”
Texas Scorecard also confirmed with Freestone County GOP Chairman Keith Turchi that his county is considering introducing a censure resolution against Orr.
Orr did not respond to requests for comment.
