Shortly after 10:00 p.m. on Sunday night, May 18, 2025, a Freestone County inmate appeared to be in medical distress and became unresponsive.
Fairfield EMS was on scene at the time and began life-saving measures along with FCSO personnel.
The inmate was transported to Fairfield ER where he was later pronounced deceased.
The FCSO contacted the Texas Rangers Division of DPS to conduct an investigation by an outside agency for which began immediately last night.
The official cause of death will be determined by a medical examiner.
The family of this individual has been contacted.
There will be no further information provided at this time due to this being a current ongoing investigation lead by DPS Texas Rangers.
