The Wortham Police Department is proud to introduce the newest member of the department Robbie III, a Belgian Malinois trained in Narcotics Detection.

The police department was awarded a grant from the Charette Foundation for a Narcotics Detection K-9 and with the help of some local donations Officer Rowdy Miers attended 160-hour K-9 handler training at Kelis K-9s. Afterwards, Officer Miers and Robbie III earned certification through the National Narcotics Detection Dog Association.

Robbie Gail Charette, President of the Charette Foundation and the Robbie Gail Charette Police Canine Support Program presented Wortham PD with the certificate of ownership of Robbie III.

Following their first night on duty, after stopping a vehicle for a traffic violation, Robbie III alerted to the vehicle where nearly 50 pounds of marijuana was located.

Wortham PD looks forward to having Officer Miers and his partner Robbie III joining the battle to keep drugs off our streets.
