Every spring, the Community Care Club (CCC), a dedicated group of women residing in the FM 416 area on the south side of Richland Chambers Lake, hosts a massive garage sale to raise funds for their various charitable projects. This wild and crazy event is not just a garage sale; it is a celebration of community spirit and collective effort.

The tradition began over two decades ago when a few women in the area decided to channel their efforts towards a common goal: supporting local causes and helping those in need. What started as a modest gathering has now evolved into one of the most anticipated events in the community calendar, drawing attention and participation from far and wide.

Preparation and Contributions

Preparation for the garage sale begins months in advance. Members of the CCC, along with volunteers from the local community, work tirelessly to get the word about the need for donations out to community members and of course, to invite everyone to participate. Preferred donations are furniture, tools, fishing gear, sports equipment, household items, toys, lawn and garden items, and more. On Drop-Off Day, Friday, April 25th, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., pick-up trucks, trailers, and mini-vans line up to drop off their items. Volunteers unload, sort, price and place the items on the correct table.

On the day of the event (April 26th, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.), the usually quiet streets of the FM 416 area come alive with activity. Beginning at around 7:30 a.m., folks start lining up outside to get the first look at the many, many items that will be on sale. The atmosphere is festive, with families, friends, and neighbors coming together to browse through the treasures on offer. There is a sense of camaraderie as people inspect the items, chat, and share stories, all while supporting a noble cause.

Impact on the Community

The funds raised from the CCC SuperSale are used to support various community projects throughout the year. These include scholarships for local students, support for families in need, contributions to children’s shelter and care, and financial assistance for Volunteer Fire Departments needs. The CCC takes pride in ensuring that the money raised is put to the best possible use, making a tangible difference in the lives of those around them.

At its heart, the CCC SuperSale is more than just a fundraiser; it is a reflection of the strong bonds that hold the Southside community together. It is a reminder of the power of collective effort and the impact that can be made when people come together for a common cause. Each spring, as the event rolls around, it brings with it a renewed sense of purpose and a reaffirmation of the community’s commitment to caring for one another.

The Community Care Club’s annual SuperSale is a testament to the generosity and spirit of the women who organize it and the community that supports it. It stands as a shining example of how, with a little effort and a lot of heart, positive change can be created, one task at a time.
