As seen in last week’s edition, FMC has partnered with ACPHealth to bring Freestone County better care and service in its Emergency Room.
Beginning January 6, 2025, the new doctors are hard at work getting to know the community and its residents. Below is what you need to know about the thirteen men and women who will be providing optimal care should you or your family find need of their service.
–Dr. Andy Wilson, FAAEM: President of ACPHealth
Dr. Wilson serves as an Assistant Clinical Professor of Emergency Medicine at Texas A&M College of Medicine as an Advisory Board Member in the Texas A&M Mays School of Management, and as the Medical Director for a SWAT Team in the Brazos Valley.
Originally from South Carolina, and after living in 11 States from Coast to Coast, he has never felt more at home than in the Great State of Texas.
Outside of work he enjoys flying and working with local law enforcement as a Reserve Deputy Constable, but his greatest joy is spending time with his family.
–Dr. Brett Burnett: EM-Regional Medical Director (ABEM)
Dr. Burnett is a Board-Certified Emergency Medicine Physician who graduated from Texas A&M University School of Medicine. He completed his Emergency Medicine Residency at Scott and White Medical Center in Temple. After graduating residency, Dr. Burnett has served as a Medical Director for multiple facilities, including a freestanding emergency department and a level III trauma center.
Currently, he is the Regional Medical Director of ACPHealth.
His passions include family adventures and aviation. Most importantly, he adores his wonderful wife and their three children.
–Dr. William Dodds: Emergency Medicine Physician (ABEM) & FMC’s ER Site Director
Dr. Dodds is a Board-Certified Emergency Medicine Physician. He attended medical school at University of North Texas Health Science Center and completed his Emergency Medicine Residency at Christus Spohn Texas A&M, where he was promoted to Chief Resident.
–Dr. Mark Boyle: Emergency Medicine Physician (ABEM)
Dr. Boyle is a Board-Certified Emergency Medicine Physician. He completed his residency in Emergency Medicine at Texas A&M/Scott and White Memorial Hospital. Before residency, he graduated from The University of Texas at Houston Medical School.
When not taking care of patients, he is recharged by spending time with his wonderful wife and 5 amazing children. His hobbies include camping, hiking, movies, and board games.
–Dr. Joshua Edmunds: Emergency Medicine Physician
Dr. Edmunds attended medical school at Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine and completed his Emergency Medicine Residency at Louisiana State University Health Shreveport.
Originally from Augusta Georgia, Dr. Edmunds is a big fan of all things Georgia Bulldogs.
–Dr. Wayne Bruner: Emergency Medicine Physician (ABEM)
Dr. Bruner is a Board-Certified Emergency Medicine Physician who graduated from University of South Florida. He completed his Emergency Medicine Residency at Scott and White Medical Center in Temple, Texas.
He has been married to wife Rhonda for 19 years and together they have 3 sons. He enjoys hunting, weight training, reading and volunteer coaching his son’s high school baseball team.
–Dr. Ryan Guthrie: Emergency Medicine Physician (ABEM)
Dr. Guthrie is a Board Eligible Emergency Medicine Physician. He attended medical school at Central Michigan University and completed his Emergency Medicine Residency at Central Michigan University.
He and his wife live in Austin and they “bleed orange.” They enjoy spending time outdoors, especially the shooting sports.
–Dr. Patrick Asay: Emergency Medicine Physician (ABEM)
Dr. Asay is a Board-Certified Emergency Medicine Physician who attended medical school at University of Utah’s School of Medicine & completed his Emergency Medicine Residency at Texas Tech University Health Science Center in El Paso. While there, he was promoted to Chief Resident. Dr. Asay has published numerous research articles throughout his career.
Since finishing residency, he and his wife have loved living in Texas and enjoy fishing and nature walks with their dog, Bruno.
–Dr. Joseph Bales: Emergency Medicine Physician (ABEM)
Dr. Bales is a Board-Certified Emergency Medicine Physician. He attended medical school at Texas Tech University Health Science Center School of Medicine and completed his Emergency Medicine Residency at University of Louisville in Louisville, Kentucky.
In addition, Dr. Bales is a member of the American College of Emergency Physicians, a marathoner and Triathlete, an Eagle Scout, active at his local church, and enjoys spending time with his family.
–Dr. Jared Kennedy: Emergency Medicine Physician (ABEM)
Dr. Kennedy is a Board-Certified Emergency Medicine Physician. He attended medical school at University of Texas Medical Branch and completed his Emergency Medicine Residency at Scott and White Medical Center in Temple.
After graduation he worked at Providence and Seton Medical Center Harker Heights, serving as the trauma director there for several years until moving to Georgetown and working for Baylor Scott and White in the Austin-region.
Outside of work, he and his wife have 2 children aged 12 and 8 that keep them busy! They enjoy watching hockey, fishing in their pond, and hiking.
–Dr. Meghan Smith: Emergency Medicine Physician (ABEM)
Dr. Smith is a Board-Certified Emergency Medicine Physician. She attended medical school at State University of New York and completed her Emergency Medicine Residency at Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center in Fort Hood. While there, she was promoted to Chief Resident.
Dr. Smith is retired Major in the US Army.
–Dr. Andrew Burnette: Emergency Medicine Physician (ABEM)
Dr. Burnette is a Board-Certified Emergency Medicine Physician. He attended medical school at Kentucky College of Osteopathic Medicine and completed his Emergency Medicine Residency at Oklahoma State University.
He and his family enjoy spending time outside, doing things such as camping, hiking, and playing with their bloodhound puppy.
–Dr. Steve Dang: Emergency Medicine Physician (ABEM)
Dr. Dang is a Board Eligible Emergency Medicine Physician. He attended medical school at Kansas City University and completed his Emergency Medicine Residency at Central Michigan University.
Dr. Dang has been an instructor for many courses and classes including Basic Ultrasound and Fundamentals of Critical Care.
In his free time, he enjoys cooking and grilling.
