The Fairfield Eagles spent the week on the road for their only contest and came up short on a 70-53 score to the top five ranked Mexia Blackcats. Both teams are in solid playoff position as the season begins to wind down.
The game Tuesday was played in its entirety but the game on Friday had to be postponed to a later date when the area schools closed down for cleaning when attendances due to illness were on the rise. Fairfield and Elkhart will play on Monday night.
Davion Hicks kept the Eagles in the game for most of the night. He scored eleven of his game high 21 in the first half and battled through the Blackcat defense. Altrie Farris counted with six in the first period and the Eagles remained within one score at 17-15.
Mexia came out of the gate fast in the second period. Kelan Collins hit a pair of three pointers and scored 12 of his 18 points in the period to build a 42-24 lead that would remain double figures throughout the remainder of the game.
Turner scored six in the third and was matched by Farris with six and the lead was 52-36. Hicks added six more in the fourth and Madden McElroy scored five in the final period to fall in the contest 70-53.
Fairfield will take on Elkhart Monday and have a total of three district games in the week as the season winds to a close. Mexia is alone in first place followed by Westwood and Fairfield.
