The Fairfield Lady Eagles were “business as usual” Tuesday night with a dominating win over the Mexia Ladycats on the road Tuesday night.
As the season winds to a close this week, Fairfield is in the top spot and will clinch their eighth consecutive district title. Mexia is in the runner up position and both them and Fairfield would enter the playoffs as the Division I representatives since they are the largest schools in the district.
Blayke Brackens took control of the road contest in the early moments. She scored 18 points in the first half of her game high 20 points. She tallied 12 in the first period of her team’s total of 19 and Fairfield jumped out to a 19-8 lead.
The Lady Eagle defense took over the remainder of the game. They amped up the defensive pressure and held the Ladycats to three points and a total of 11 for the first half. Brackens hit a pair of three pointers in the second period and led 32-11.
Jacelynn Schmidt scored eight of her ten points in the third period and Wisner scored seven points in the fourth period and cut into the lead, but they could get no closer than the 52-32 final score.
