The Friends of Fort Boggy State Park will meet Wednesday, January 15, 2025, at 12:00 pm at the City of Centerville Municipal Building across from the Post Office for its Annual Meeting and final preparations for the 8th Annual Kid Fish. A light lunch will be served at 11:30 am.

Three Directors are nominated annually. The following persons have been nominated to serve on the Board of Directors: Barbara Hankins, Norma Mushen and Beatrice Rodriguez. Other nominations can be made from the floor at the Annual Meeting. We will also be electing officers for 2025.

During the meeting we will also discuss final preparations for the 8th Annual Kid Fish at Fort Boggy State Park slated for Saturday, Feb. 22nd. Goodie bags for the participants will be prepared at the end of the Annual Meeting. Please consider staying after the meeting to help.

The 8th Annual Kid Fish is for children 5-12 years of age. Registration opened January 1st and will close when spaces are filled or Feb. 14th, whichever comes first.

Pre-registration is highly encouraged with a limited number of walk-ins allowed. You must sign up using the website provided on the TPWD Events Page (https://tpwd.texas.gov/state-parks/fort-boggy/park_events) or Friends of Fort Boggy Facebook pages. No registrations will be taken over the phone.

Space is limited to 75 participants per session. There are two sessions to choose from: Morning session (9:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.) and Afternoon session (1:00 p.m. – 3:30 p.m.)

During each session, participating children will receive an event t-shirt (pre-registered only) and, once they have completed the clinic portion of the event, will have the opportunity to fish in Lake Sullivan with their brand new Zebco rod ‘n’ reel (bait will be supplied to the participants). Complete instructions for each session will be provided at check-in on the day of the event.

This is a family event! Family members can bring their own equipment or use the park’s loaner equipment to fish. Bait can be purchased at the park office. Every child regardless of age will receive a free ice cream coupon!

While we will not conduct a tournament as in the past, each participant will receive a 2025 Kid Fish commemorative bag tag that can be clipped to a backpack or gym bag as well as a goodie bag of information and treats. There may also be a surprise event for participants’ siblings 4 years and younger – more details to follow on this in future articles.

If anyone would like to volunteer or be a sponsor for this year’s Annual Kid Fish, please join us at the Annual Meeting on the 15th or contact The Friends of Fort Boggy at friendsoffortboggy@gmail.com.

Meetings are open to the public and we encourage all to join us in our efforts to preserve and protect the natural and cultural resources of Fort Boggy State Park.
