Freestone County and our surrounding areas are under a Winter Weather Advisory from 6:00 A.M. Thursday, January 9 to 12:00 noon on Friday, January 10, 2025.
Mixed precipitation is expected with total snow and sleet accumulations up to one inch and ice accumulations up to one tenth of an inch.
This affects portions of Central and East Texas.
Plan for slippery road conditions. Hazardous conditions could impact the Thursday morning and evening commutes.
Be sure to slow down and use caution while traveling. The latest road conditions can be found at drivetexas.org
Schools in Freestone County are preparing for the inclement weather.
Fairfield ISD
Fairfield ISD will have a 2-hour delay on Thursday, January 9th (buses will run 2 hours later than normal, school will start 2 hours later than normal)
Based on the latest weather forecast from the National Weather Service, the temperatures will be about 30 degrees starting around 10 PM tonight until around 5:00 AM tomorrow morning and will increase to 32 at 7:00 AM. The temperatures will remain above 32 throughout Friday.
“While we could probably have a normal school day tomorrow, we are going to have a 2 hour delay so we are coming to school in the daylight instead of the dark,” said school staff. “This will allow the temperatures to increase just a little and will hopefully be a little more comforting for people who are driving, including students.”
BE SAFE! “We will have several people out early tomorrow morning monitoring the roads in case something changes.”

Wortham ISD
Out of an abundance of caution, Wortham ISD will have a 2-hour delayed start on Thursday, January 9. This delay will allow buses to pick up students during daylight, and it will allow staff members who travel from different towns to have more time to arrive safely.
“We will continue to evaluate road conditions, and if we deem conditions are not favorable for traveling at all, we will make that decision tomorrow morning,” said school staff. “Additionally, we will evaluate the winter weather conditions throughout the day on Thursday and make decisions regarding school on Friday later in the day.”
Teague ISD
Teague ISD will operate on its regular schedule on Thursday, January 9.
“We will continue to monitor local and regional forecasts over the next 36 hours and provide updates as needed,” said TISD Superintendent Christ Skinner on Wednesday evening.
