Wreath-laying ceremonies will be held at multiple sites in Freestone and Limestone Counties, joining 4,700 other locations across the country for National Wreaths Across America Day, December 14, 2024.

Coordinated and led by local volunteers, the Jonathan Hardin Chapter, NSDAR, Inc., a sponsorship group has raised funds throughout the year to sponsor the placement of over 630 veterans’ wreaths on the headstones of our fallen service members laid to rest at the following cemeteries: LaSalle (Groesbeck), New Hope (Jewett), Salem (Teague), Driver (Teague), and Wortham (Wortham).

In addition to these locations, two other organizations have joined the WAA mission to Remember-Honor -Teach.

This is the first year the Veteran’s Remembrance Park-Teague and Shanks Cemetery Association will participate as registered sites.

The veterans’ wreath is a symbol of HONOR, RESPECT, and VICTORY.

When a volunteer places a wreath on a veteran’s grave on National Wreaths Across America Day, we encourage them to speak that veteran’s name aloud, thank them for their service and sacrifice, and reflect on that person and their life. Each live, balsam veteran’s wreath is a gift of respect and appreciation. By speaking their name, they will not be forgotten.

Ceremonies will be held at:
–9:00 am – LaSalle Cemetery (Groesbeck)
–10:00 am – Veteran’s Remembrance Park (Teague)
–10:30 am – New Hope Cemetery (Jewett)
–11:30 am – Shanks Cemetery (Teague)
–12:00 pm – Salem Cemetery (Teague)
–1:30 pm – Driver Cemetery (Teague)
–3:00 pm – Wortham Cemetery (Wortham)

All are welcome to attend and participate in the wreath-laying ceremonies. We encourage our youth to attend, also. We hope you will be able to attend one of the ceremonies.

This annual event seeks to further the yearlong mission to Remember, Honor, Teach, ensuring that the memory of those who served our country endures.
