Update (10-24-24 at 1:15 p.m.):  The UIL State Executive Committee ruled Thursday morning, October 24, 2024 that Westwood ISD head football coach Richard Bishop will be removed for the remainder of the season.
As to the team, the committee voted unanimously to NOT forfeit any of the Westwood ISD games.

Head Football Coach for Palestine Westwood has been suspended and all district games must be forfeit for the rest of the 2024 season, following a ruling on Monday afternoon by the District 9 – 3A Division I District Executive Committee (DEC).

Teague Lions were scheduled to travel to Westwood for a game this Friday, October 25, 2024. Fairfield Eagles have Westwood on their Varsity schedule for ‘Senior Night’ on November 1st.

No word at press time as to how these scheduled games will be handled.

Allegations of videotaping opponents signals while scouting was the impetus behind the ruling against the Westwood Panthers head coach Richard Bishop. The suspension by the DEC also includes another Westwood ISD employee.

Both suspensions are being recommended to the UIL State Executive Committeee.

The decision has been officially appealed. Stay tuned for updates.

Palestine Westwood is currently undefeated in District play and ranked No. 6 in State 3A by Dave Campbell’s Texas Football.

There are only 3 games left at the District level.
