The Fairfield Eagles exploded for 41 second half points to pull away from the McGregor Bulldogs. The 69-40 win for the Eagles spoiled a Bulldog homecoming as Fairfield moves into the open week.

Junior quarterback Kohl Collins had a huge night completing 15 of 25 passes for 547 yards and six touchdowns. Cal Wilson hauled in four of those passes for 247 yards and three scores and Finn Smith added two touchdowns on seven catches topping 220 yards.

The Eagle offense took a quarter to get moving but they got things moving and the tempo picked up. Fairfield got on the board in the middle of the first quarter when Smith scored the first of this three total touchdowns on the night. He took the jet sweep for the two-yard touchdown run and Kieran King added the point after for the early 7-0 lead.

Fairfield tallied another score just before the end of the first quarter. Taking advantage of a short punt, the Eagles scored on a quarterback keeper by Collins from 19 yards out and the 14-0 lead at the end of the first quarter.

McGregor took a long drive into the second quarter and Rolando Medina kicked a 24-yard field goal, cutting the lead to 14-3.

The final three minutes had three touchdowns put on the board before the half. On the fourth play of an Eagle drive, Collins hit Wilson for the first of three touchdowns on the night. The 65-yard touchdown put Fairfield ahead 21-3.

The Bulldogs answered quickly on a quarterback keeper by Bubba Zacharias and the lead was cut to 28-10. Fairfield needed only one play to get that score back when Collins and Wilson connected for the second time in minutes on a 75-yard scoring strike. Fairfield led 28-10 at the half.

McGregor took the opening possession of the second half and scored on a 26-yard field goal and the Eagle offense would begin takeoff. Fairfield ran 12 plays in the third quarter and scored four touchdowns, the first a 57-yard touchdown pass to Wilson.

The Bulldogs answered quickly on a 75-yard touchdown pass from Zacharias to Dominic Madron to set the score at 35-20 with the Eagles still in front.

The teams exchanged scores again, the firs a 40-yard run by Jaylon Shed and Zacharias answered with a 31-yard score then the lead was 42-27.

The Eagles added one more score on the last play of the third quarter. Smith caught a 79-yard touchdown pass, the third of the quarter for Collins and the Eagles had a 56-27 lead heading into the final quarter.

McGregor added a touchdown run by Sebastian Torres and the Eagles quickly countered with video game numbers continuing. Shed scored through the air hauling in a short pass from Collins and turning it into a 61-yard touchdown.

The Bulldogs scored on a 16-yard touchdown pass and the Eagles went back to work with new personnel. Landon Washington took over calling the signals and Kalil Appel ran in the backfield. He carried four of five times on the drive and raced the final 27 yards for the touchdown and the eventual final score of 69-40.

The Eagles (3-2) will enter in the bye week and then host the Teague Lions in the District 9-3A Division I opener on October 11.
