by Sheriff Jeremy Shipley

On 9/1/2024, FCSO Dispatch received a call that a mini excavator had been stolen the night before out of Spring Texas, and the GPS tracking device was showing that it was in Freestone County in the area of CR 481. Deputy Hill was dispatched to the area and was able to locate the stolen excavator in a wooded area.

SUCCESSFUL RECOVERY…

But, wait…there’s more….

While waiting for a wrecker to arrive to take possession of the equipment, the “we think we’re sneaky little thieves” had some bad planning and some bad timing as they came back to the location while the Deputy was still there. Once the mice saw the cat, it was a scene from Tom and Jerry. While trying to slip away from Deputies they decided to unload some narcotics by throwing them out of the window of the vehicle. It was obviously not enough weight to make them go faster and they decided to willing pull over and stop for our Deputies. Deputies were also able to recover some of the narcotics that was thrown out.

Once the investigation was complete two subjects were arrested and charged with the following:

1)Theft of Property (F3)

2)Engaging in Organized Criminal Activity (F2)

3)Tampering with Evidence (F3)

4)Possession of a Controlled Substance PG 3 less then 28 grams – Class A Misdemeanor

Great work by our men in tan and blue.
