On December 19, 2023, the Fairfield ISD Board of Trustees voted unanimously to name Joe Craig as the lone finalist for the position of Superintendent of Schools.
The Board must now wait 21 days before hiring the Superintendent.
Since 2017, Craig has served as superintendent at Rogers ISD, a school district with three campuses of approximately 890 students in grades PreK-12.
A special meeting has been called for 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 9, 2024 to deliberate regarding hiring Superintendent and approval of Superintendent contract.
Craig earned his bachelor’s degree at Southwest Texas State University (now Texas State) and his Master’s Degree at the University of Alaska-Anchorage, where he was also an assistant men’s basketball coach for 5 years. He completed his Superintendent Certification at Tarleton State University – Central Texas.
In addition to serving as Superintendent at Rogers ISD, Craig has previously served roles as Assistant Superintendent, High School Principal, and High School Assistant Principal at Academy ISD from 2001-2016. He began his career as a high school teacher and coach at Victoria ISD in 1996. Mr.
Speaking of his time at Rogers ISD, Mr. Craig said he is proud of the academic achievements made during his time as Superintendent.
“Through the incredibly hard work from the students, teachers, curriculum personnel, and campus administrators, we went from a combined Approaches, Meets, and Masters score of -82 less than the state average in 2018 to last year scoring 298 above the state average, including outperforming the state in 78% of the tested categories,” said Craig.
He is also very proud of the district’s accomplishments in extracurricular activities, including a stretch from 2018-2022 where every team sport on both the girls and boys side made the playoffs. “No other school in our district did this once during this time period, and they did it three times in a row,” said Craig. The Band program earned sweepstakes honors on two occasions, as well as many successes in the FFA program, Academic UIL, and Theatre.
Most of all, Craig says he will remember the relationships he built with the students, staff, and community members during his seven years at Rogers.
Craig and his wife, Michele, have been married 28 years and have two grown sons, Zach (25) and Jaxon (20) who live in the Metroplex.
Michele is a VI (Visual Impairment) Specialist at ESC Region 12 in Waco, where she has worked for 11 years. She works with teachers who teach students with visual impairments.
Mr. Craig is excited to begin his work at Fairfield ISD and can’t wait to get to know the staff, students, and community members of Fairfield.
He prides himself in being very visible at a variety of school activities.
