From 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Friday, October 27th, three-time Baylor graduate, Dr. Robert L. Uzzel, will have a book-signing at the Baylor Bookstore in Waco, Texas.
Copies of Uzzel’s four books will be available for purchase. They include:
—Blind Lemon Jefferson: His Life, His Death, and His Legacy (2002): a biography of the blues recording artist from Wortham, Texas who lived from 1893 to 1929.
—Prince Hall Freemasonry in the Lone Star State: From Cuney to Curtis, 1875-2003 (2004): the history of an African American fraternal order based in Fort Worth.
—Éliphas Lévi and the Kaballah: The Masonic and French Connection of the American Mystery Tradition: a biography of a French esoteric writer who lived from 1810 to 1875, which began as Dr. Uzzel’s doctoral dissertation at Baylor.
—The Durhams of Fairfield: An African American Genealogy: the history of his wife’s family tree that was inspired by Alex Haley’s 1976 best-seller Roots: The Saga of an American Family.
Uzzel is a native of Waco and graduated from Waco High School in 1969. He received his BA in Religion and Sociology in 1973, his MA in Church-State Studies in 1976, and his Ph.D. in World Religions in 1995.
An ordained elder in the African Methodist Episcopal Church, he has served as pastor of AME congregations in Dallas, Fort Worth, Blooming Grove, Maypearl, Kaufman, and Ennis.
Dr. Uzzel currently serves as pastor of Bethel AME Church in Corsicana.
He has taught at several colleges and has experience as a social worker and chaplain.
