The general public has the opportunity to vote online, now thru July 31, 2023, on 100 large-scale community artworks from around the world, nominated for a People’s Choice CODAaward. Hundreds of commissioned art projects were submitted to the 11th Annual CODAawards: Collaboration of Design + Art, which are given annually to the remarkable works that successfully integrate art into interior, architectural, and public spaces. The two projects that collect the most online votes will receive a coveted People’s Choice CODAaward and be announced, alongside all of this year’s CODAaward winners (one in each of ten categories; Landscape, Residential, Healthcare, Commercial, Institutional, Liturgical, Public Spaces, Transportation, Hospitality, and Education), in August by Interior Design magazine. This year, a new honor is added; the Team of the Year CODAaward. Selected from projects in the Top 100, this award will be based on the concept of teamwork and collaboration.

This year’s record-setting 411 CODAawards entries are located across 24 countries (and one in the Korean Demilitarized Zone), with the average project budget being
$268,266 USD, and the total budgets of all projects submitted adding up to $54,726,272 USD.

The diversity of artwork includes “Beam”, an interactive installation at Burning Man 2022 in Reno, Nevada; “Anisipi”, a water-discovery route made up of four immersive experiences that celebrate water in Quebec, Canada; and “Orb”, a contemporary metal sculpture next to the Pyramids of Giza in Egypt.
The 2023 jury is comprised of leaders in the design and art worlds, including Cindy Allen (EIC, Interior Design Magazine), Kerry Adams-Hapner (Director, San Jose Department of Cultural Affairs), Hervé-Armand Bechy (Author, Introduction to Contemporary Public Art), Sandra Bloodworth (Director, MTA Arts and Design), Kris Collins (Managing Director, Cultural MGAC), Kimberly Dowdell (Incoming President of AIA), Michael Flanagan (Art Collector and Investor), Barry Hand (Principal, Gensler), Catherine Heath (Founder and CEO of HYL Architecture), Necole Irvin (Director, Mayor’s Office of Cultural Affairs, Houston), Elizabeth Lowrey (Principal, Elkus Manfredi Architects), Michael Mayer (President, Franz Mayer of Munich), Joe Nahem (Fox-Nahem Design), Terrence Schroeder (Principal, TenBerke), Dayton Schroeter (Vice President and Design Director, SmithGroup), Tim Sinnaeve (Director of Digital Canvas, Barco), Tomasz Urbanowicz (ArchiGlass), Julian Weyer (Owner, C.F. After weeks of reviewing and scoring all entries, these jurors will agree on one winner in each category to create the 2023 CODAawards winners circle (plus the two People’s Choice CODAawardees that the general public will select).
The Top 100 projects embody not only the creative prowess of top visionaries in interior, architectural, or public spaces, but also symbolize how art and design bring peace, prosperity, and profound meaning to our lives.
