Over the weekend, Texas State House Representatives voted 121-23 to impeach Texas State Attorney General Ken Paxton on charges of bribery, abuse of office, and obstruction.
Among Republicans voting for impeachment were Angelia Orr – District 13, who represents Freestone County, and Cody Harris – District 8, who formerly represented our area.
This matter has now been sent to the Texas State Senate for trial, and Paxton is suspended from his position pending the outcome. No word yet as to when a trial will be set.
This action was taken just two days before close of the legislative session on Monday, May 29, 2023.
The 20 articles of impeachment were presented by the House General Investigating Committee.
The bipartisan committee was made up of three Republicans and two Democrats who reportedly began their investigation in March.
