On Thursday evening of May 11, 2023, at 4:56pm, Deputy Scott Leatherman, along with Fairfield Fire and Fairfield EMS, responded to the scene of a one vehicle accident with entrapment on S. Hwy 75, just south of Fairfield. The vehicle was found to be heavily involved in smoke, and fire was coming from the engine area. The driver was found pinned in the vehicle in the floorboard of the car, between the front dash and the driver seat. Deputy Leatherman was first on scene and immediately began attempts of extricating the driver and sole occupant from the vehicle as well as attempting to hold back the flames from coming into the vehicle with a fire extinguisher along with the assistance of a couple good Samaritans on scene. Fairfield EMS soon arrived and Paramedics Jaggar Kennedy and Brandon Glass began assisting Deputy Leatherman in attempting to remove the trapped driver from the vehicle as the smoke conditions worsened and the fire intensified. The driver was successfully removed as attempts were continuously being made by these gentleman while placing themselves at great risk which undoubtedly saved the person’s life.

These men went above and beyond as they risked their own health and wellbeing to save the life of another and deserve to be recognized for their heroic efforts.

We also want to recognize a few of the identified good Samaritans on scene, Mr. Jacob Carroll, Lettie Hightower, and Hailey Oliver for their initial assistance on scene.

Prayers are needed and will be welcomed by the individual that was in the vehicle.
