The Ground Up Garden Grant Program seeks to connect small-scale gardening to farming operations, so students understand food production. Dew ISD received $500 dollars to fund our Benefits of Agricultural Diversity Project.
In addition, the Freestone County Farm Bureau matched the grant and awarded Dew ISD an additional $500. Thank you, Mr. Ryan Mathison and Mrs. Kayse Turner for presenting this award last week to Mrs. Korey Green (middle), our 5th-8th grade Science teacher.
Our goal with the Agricultural Benefits of Biodiversity project is to utilize Project Based Learning to integrate the Texas State Standards into a hands-on, student-led learning experience that improves the outside learning spaces of our school one garden space at a time while investigating what benefits biodiversity has in Agriculture. This Project will serve grades 5-8 in a cross-curricular PBL.
