On Thursday, February 16, 2023, closing arguments were heard in the trial of a local resident who was identified as Adam “Skinner” Lenamond. Mr. Lenamond was charged with, and convicted of, Continuous Sexual Abuse of a Child following an investigation by the Groesbeck Police Department.
Once the closing arguments were completed, the jury was sent for deliberations. While court was in recess, Mr. Lenamond was able to leave since he was currently on bond.
At approximately 1:30 p.m. the court notified the prosecution and defense teams that a verdict had been reached. Members of the prosecution and the defense returned to court but Mr. Lenamond did not return with his defense team.
Groesbeck Police Chief Chris Henson and Limestone County Sheriff Murray Agnew were informed of his absence and given further information indicating Mr. Lenamond may have been at Limestone Medical Center in Groesbeck.
Chief Henson and Sheriff Agnew traveled to Limestone Medical Center where Mr. Lenamond was located in a parking lot. He was found to be in distress and in possession of a firearm.
Chief Henson placed Limestone Medical Center on lockdown due to Mr. Lenamond’s proximity to the emergency room entrance while Sheriff Agnew initiated communications with Mr. Lenamond. Once the facility was secured, Chief Henson joined Sheriff Agnew in a coordinated effort to deescalate the situation and bring it to a peaceful resolution.
Chief Henson and Sheriff Agnew continued negotiation efforts from approximately 2:00 p.m. until approximately 8:00 p.m. During the course of those negotiations, Mr. Lenamond was informed by a third party that the jury had returned a guilty verdict which caused negotiations to stall.
At approximately 8:00 p.m., the decision was made to transfer negotiations to the ‘Texas Rangers crisis negotiators. Sheriff Agnew then contacted Navarro County Sheriff Elmer Tanner and requested the presence of his tactical team and his crisis negotiators.
Sheriff Tanner and his team responded and joined the efforts of the Groesbeck Police Department, the Limestone County Sheriff’s Office, and the Texas Department of Public Safety.
Negotiations continued throughout the night and culminated in a successful apprehension of Mr. Lenamond at approximately 9:49 a.m. on Friday, February 17, 2023, by members of the Texas Department of Public Safety Special Response Team without injury to officers or Mr. Lenamond.
Mr. Lenamond was remanded into custody pursuant to his guilty verdict and placed in the Limestone County Jail to await sentencing.
