The Fairfield Lady Eagles dominated the week and head into the playoffs to defend the state title and currently sit as the state’s top ranked team.
Fairfield travelled to Mexia to make up the weather game and the much anticipated game against the District 20-3A Mexia Lady Cats.
Fairfield scored early and often and led 25-7 at the end of the first and 39-11 at the half. Shadasia Brackens and McKinna Brackens scored and passed the team to a big lead. Avery Thaler had a backcourt steal and score and the Lady Eagles made their final three shots of the first period. Lillie McBean and Nash finished the half with scores and the Lady Eagles had a big lead.
Fairfield hit six of seven during a stretch of the third period and went on an 18-2 run, holding the Lady Cats to one of 11 shooting in the period. The lead swelled to over 40 and then the final was 71-19.
The Lady Eagles travelled to Palestine to take on the Westwood Lady Panthers. Fairfield allowed only two in the game the first meeting and coasted to a 78-8 win. Shadasia Brackens and McKinna Brackens scored six each in the first quarter and gave way to the reserves in the second half. McKinna Brackens scored 13 points, as did Nash and Shadasia Brackens led with 16 points. Jaci Abram added ten points in the win, and Blayke Brackens scored ten in the game.
Fairfield took to the road for a playoff warm up game in Sunnyvale. The Lady Raiders battled for most of the game, but a 17-2 fourth quarter run put the game away and on the win tally for Fairfield. McKinna Brackens scored seven in the first period to push the Lady Eagles out to a 12-9 lead. Nash added a three pointer in the period.
McAda hit two three-pointers in the second period and the Lady Raiders connected from long distance four times to total 12 for the period.
Blayke Brackens scored and Shadasia Brackens added five in the period and the Lady Eagles were in a spot they had not seen in quite some time, a 21-19 halftime deficit.
Fairfield took the lead and would allow only seven points in the second half. Kayla Williams scored and Shadasia Brackens added six and the Lady Eagles led 26-25 heading into the fourth.
Avery Thaler showed her dominance in the middle with six fourth period points and Shadasia Brackens hit three of four from the free throw line. Fairfield went on a 17-2 over the final eight minutes to win 44-28.
The Fairfield Lady Eagles will have the first playoff game at Robinson High School and take on the Rogers Lady Eagles.
UPDATE: On Monday, the Fairfield Lady Eagles beat the Rogers Lady Eagles.
