The Fairfield Lady Eagles continued their dominance of District 20-3A and the win over Elkhart clinched another district title but Fairfield has their sights set on something higher.
The week opened with some questionable weather conditions that caused a postponement of the Mexia game and it will be made up on Monday. After a couple of days off, the Lady Eagles hosted the Elkhart Lady Elks on the Friday night game with limited practice for both teams.
Fairfield jumped out to an 18-2 lead behind six points from Shadasia Brackens and a three pointer from Kristavia Nelms. Shadasia Brackens added four more points in the second period and McKinna Brackens tallied seven points and the lead was 35-11 at the half.
Fairfield coasted through the second half on a 42-2 run to win the contest 77-13. Jimilyah Nash hit a pair of three pointers and scored 12 in the game. McKinna Brackens scored 13 points and Shadasia Brackens scored 20 in the win.
The Fairfield Lady Eagles win the district race and the Mexia Lady Cats, Teague Lady Lions, and Franklin Lady Lions all have clinched playoff spots.
Mexia can finish second if they split the final two games of the district race. Teague has an important contest with Franklin as the district season concludes this week.
