Proposed is an $8 million bond to be used for building improvements and the purchase of new school buses. The bond would have a 5-year term.

Specifically, the projects include roof repairs at the high school campus, complete renovation of HVAC at the elementary campus, replacement of aging HVAC equipment at the junior high and high school campuses (approximately 120 units), and district-wide LED retrofit that is estimated to save Fairfield ISD about $50,000 each year.

School bus purchases would include 6 full-size buses and 4 small (14-passenger) buses.

Proposed budget for these items are:

–$200,000 – FHS Roof Repair

–$5,300,000 – HVAC

–$900,000 – LED Lighting

–$1,200,000 – Transportation (school buses)

If passed, the Bond is estimated to increase annual property taxes by $159.98 per $100,000 valuation. For comparison, the average home value in Fairfield ISD is $130,309.

It is important to note that there would be no tax increase above the frozen level on the homestead of taxpayers 65 years of age or older who have applied for and received the age 65 freeze.
