Last Thursday I was feeding the cows and if someone could see what was going on they would have thought the cows had not been fed for months! It actually had only been two days. We always make them clean up after we feed. They will leave a perfectly good bale to go after another one that they think is better.

So, I am driving down the ranch road to get over to the hay pen and lo and behold, they are standing in the middle of the road. I thought I was going to have to run over them. I yelled at them, I drove right to them without touching them and finally they decided to move and give me some room. When I brought the first bale back over to the side of the lake where I was going to feed, I had to chase them off the road again in order to get there. So, I put the first bale out and none of them move. OK, if you want to be that way, go ahead I thought. I made another trip and as I got down the road through the Sweet Gum Grove where they were giving me trouble, I saw a bunch of calves running and kicking up their heels. But they weren’t the only ones. There were a couple of cows that were also running and kicking up their heels. I thought they would fall flat on their faces if they weren’t careful. I mean, with the size of cows it very easily could have happened.

It was a lot of fun to watch as they didn’t just do it once or twice, but they ran quite a way doing their “happy dance” the whole way. You never know what is going on at the Red Oak Ranch.
