All high school coaches and media guys waited with great anticipation of the new districts for the next two seasons when the districts were realigned by the University Interscholastic League.
Fairfield will be in the new District 8-3A Division I which will be Eustace, Groesbeck, Kemp, Teague and Malakoff remaining with the Fairfield Eagles. They will be joining the Mexia Blackcats who are moving down from 4A to be joined with schools they used to be paired with many years ago. It puts Fairfield, Teague, Mexia and Groesbeck back in the same district when they were in a larger classification and it should be an exciting time in the local area when those schools will be together again.
The basketball district will have a similar look but will lose one and gain one. The basketball district is 20-3A again and will consist of Buffalo, Elkhart, Fairfield, Franklin, Groesbeck, Mexia, Palestine Westwood, and Teague. The district loses Crockett and gains the Mexia Blackcats for the next two years.
The Wortham Bulldogs will have some new district opponents for the next two years. Wortham will be paired with Frost, Hubbard, Dawson, Hico, Mart, and Meridian. The district loses Bremond and Chilton and gains the Hico Tigers and Meridian Yellowjackets. The Bulldogs should return a potent roster that will contend with the new realignment.
Buffalo will lose Franklin, which moves up to Division I and with the champion Lorena. The Bison will be paired with Clifton, Elkhart, Florence, Lexington and Rogers for the next two seasons.
The Oakwood Panthers are paired in District 9-A Division II with Apple Springs, Ladonia Fannidel and Trinidad.
Some other districts are District 9-3A Division I with Coldspring-Oakhurst, Crockett, Diboll, Huntington, Palestine Westwood, Shepherd, Woodville. District 9-4A Division one will feature Athens, Henderson, Jacksonville, Kilgore, Lindale, Palestine, and Tyler Chapel Hill.
