Come graduation day in December, when Shaqueria Means walks across the stage a Navarro College upon completion of her studies at the Police Academy, she will also have a badge pinned on her by the leadership of Fairfield Police Department.
Fairfield Councilmembers met with Means during a closed Executive Session at the November 9, 2021 Council meeting. “She blew them away,” said City Administrator Nate Smith.
Reportedly at the top of her class, Means had visited with other departments, according to Smith. However, Fairfield is home.
The City Administrator credits Police Chief David Utsey and Asst. Chief Albert Gallegos for being proactive in recruiting the 24-year-old Fairfield alum.
“With the resignation of Officer Joshua Ashley, we are currently two officers down,” said City Administrator Smith.
“Lots of places are screaming for officers,” Smith continued, as there is a current trend in law enforcement taking early retirement to pursue other fields of work.
The City of Fairfield and the Fairfield Police Department look forward to adding Shaqueria Means to their hometown team next month.
