What a great trip the members and friends of the Let’s Travel Club experienced when they traveled to Oklahoma last week. Nice weather certainly enhanced the trip.

The two nights were spent at the River Spirit Hotel/Casino Resort in downtown Tulsa, Oklahoma.

The full day in Oklahoma was spent in Pawhuska, the home of Ree Drummond and all her Pioneer Woman offerings. Breakfast at the Mercantile was a delicious way to start the day. The travelers chose from a full menu of tasty choices. Then, it was time to shop the Merc.

Some shoppers found kitchen gadgets and doodads while others found shirts and even bacon-flavored band aids to remind them of the trip.

Several other shops in Pawhuska were visited by the travelers. There were stores with clothes, jewelry, antiques, western wear, lawn decorations.

Of course, a few travelers enjoyed visiting P-town for a pizza lunch while others opted for a visit to Charlie’s Sweet Shop for some ice cream/candy.

The early afternoon was spent learning the history of the Constantine Theater in downtown Pawhuska. The theater is still used from time to time for special events. Tours are offered many days. The visit is well worth one’s time.

Later in the afternoon, the travelers returned to the bus as a step-on guide from Roaming the Osage hosted a tour of the area. The group enjoyed learning some of the history including the Osage Indians and how they became the richest people in the world per capita. Another highlight of the tour was learning that Ben Johnson, cowboy/actor, grew up in Pawhuska on his family’s ranch.

The last activity of the day was maybe the best. Although the weather was wonderful, all the shops were enjoyed, both of the tours were interesting, the last activity was enjoying a Dinner Event with a meal served by the Pioneer Woman Mercantile kitchen. Everything was served family style with platters and bowls full of delicious food followed by desserts from the bakery.

Anyone who hasn’t been to Pawhuska will enjoy being there. One doesn’t have to be a fan of Pioneer Woman to enjoy the area. It offers good food, fun shopping, three museums to explore. Roaming the Osage offers tours each day to make certain you enjoy the experience.
