School starts this week for most students in Freestone County, Texas.

Dew, Fairfield and Teague will have their first day on Wednesday, followed by Wortham on Thursday.

Faith Academy of Freestone will start back on September 1st.

High School sports are getting their start with scrimmages and pep rallies.

Bulldog fans got together Monday in Wortham for their annual Back to School Bash, with athletes, cheer squad and band members taking the spotlight.

Lions fans will be out in full force on Thursday, August 12th for a Community Pep Rally in Teague beginning at 7:30 p.m.

Meet the Eagles will be held next week on Tuesday, August 17th following the Varsity Volleyball game at Fairfield High School.

The Freestone County Times will be featuring the Fall athletes of all three high schools over the next several weeks. Stay tuned.

For Back-to-School shopping, Fairfield Chamber of Commerce is promoting “Business After Hours” from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 12th. Downtown retailers will serve snacks and drinks, offer discounts and give away door prizes to all their shoppers.

Cornerstone Full Gospel Church of Fairfield will host their 9th annual Bar-B-Que Cook-Off and Community Lunch on Saturday, August 14th at the W.L. Moody Fairgrounds in Fairfield.

Categories include Beef Brisket, Pork Ribs, Cook’s Choice and Chicken. First 10 teams will have meat supplied.
Deadline to register is Wednesday, August 11th at 12:00 noon by calling Sis. Felicia Brakens at 214-668-6601. Entry is $100 for 4-person team.

A Pinto Bean Cook-Off will also be held. Cost is $5 per entry, and must include at least one (1) quart.

New this year is a Cupcake Bake-Off for kids, 17 years and under. Cupcakes should be turned in by 8:45 a.m. on the day of the event, Saturday, August 14th.

Following the judging, a FREE Community-wide lunch will be served on Saturday at the Lion’s Club Booth beginning at 12:30 p.m.

Finally, an Open House and Ribbon Cutting is being held Saturday, August 14, 2021 at the new location of Hart To Table, located at 405 E. Commerce Street in Fairfield. They serve sugar free, grain free and keto friendly recipes.
Hart To Table will be open 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. this Saturday. Ribbon Cutting will be at 11:00 a.m.
