With the first day of classes set for August 11th, Fairfield ISD plans to operate a normal school year for 2021-2022, as discussed during a recent Board of Trustees meeting held July 12, 2021.
Here is a summary of that meeting:
–Public Hearing on ESSER II – Deputy Superintendent Melissa Cox reported on ESSER II funds. Fairfield ISD was awarded $1,081,336; however, TEA is keeping approximately $678,407 because of our enrollment loss last year. This leaves the district with approximately $400,000. At this time, all ESSER II funds are being designated for staff compensation incentives. We are currently considering a one-time payment of $2,000 for full-time teachers, and $500 for all other employees. The date for disbursement has not been finalized yet, but the funds will be utilized during the 2021-2022 school year.
–Athletic Director John Bachtel reported on our athletics program. Also, HB 547 which passed in the 87th session, allows homeschooled students to participate in UIL activities. However, Fairfield ISD reserves the right to refuse this option, and will exercise this right. Homeschool students will not be allowed to participate in UIL activities at Fairfield ISD.
–Fairfield ISD plans to operate a normal school year for 2021-2022. Obviously things could change if state, TEA, or UIL restrictions are put in place. At this time, there are not any restrictions from these state organizations. Fairfield ISD will continue to monitor the COVID situation, and keep the safety of our students and staff at the forefront of conversations and plans. Any staff member, student or guest wanting to wear a mask for safety precautions, will be allowed to do so.
–Student and employee handbooks were approved. They should be available on the website and in Classlink by the end of the week.
–FISD Academics: STAAR scores for the 20-21 school year were shared. There are some areas of improvement needing to be addressed due to the COVID pandemic. Plans for instruction and assessment improvement were discussed.
–Property and casualty insurance through TASB was approved for the 2021-2022 school year.
–The 2021-2022 FISD compensation package was approved. The package is based on a 3% model, which provides a 3% increase in the teacher payscale based on the midpoint, and all other district positions. The new pay scale should be available on the website and Classlink later this week.
–Also approved were the TASB policy update 117, new HVAC units for Johnson Activity Center, the ESC 12 contract and the SHAC committee for the 2021-2022 school year.
–Additionally, all FISD football tickets will utilize an online platform (GoFan) for purchase this season. No cash sales will be available for tickets at the gate. If you are a season ticket holder for varsity games, you should have received a letter with information on how to register.
