Taking home the gold is Teague Elementary teacher, Carrie Waddell Crutcher, who earned the Golden Mic trophy in the Legacy: A New Voice competition hosted by Navarro College South on June 11, 2021.
Crutcher performed the song, “The Good Ones,” which was originally performed and co-written by country recording artist, Gabby Barrett.
Coolidge music teacher, Becca Ward, took Runner Up in the singing competition for her performance of “Rich,” by Maren Morris.
Also competing this year were Addyson Allen of Mexia, Erica Navarro of Mexia, Amber Rogers of Wortham, Tom Vandegriff of Marquez, and Kensy Isaacs of Fairfield.
The event is a fundraiser for Navarro College Foundation, which provides scholarships to Navarro students from Limestone, Freestone and Leon counties.
A portion of the Legacy proceeds also benefit faculty on Navarro’s Mexia campus through a Teaching Innovation Award.
The evening was emceed by Revendy “Pork Chop” Rhodes. Judges included former Mexia Mayor Arthur “Chunky” Busby, Mexia City Manager Eric Garretty, and Navarro College Foundation Treasurer Debbie Wilson.
