Rescheduled at least once due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Texas Press Association held their annual Convention and Trade Show in Denton, Texas this past weekend.

The much-anticipated Awards Brunch, held Saturday, June 12, 2021 ended with several local newspapers receiving awards this year.
This year, 90 Texas newspapers submitted 934 entries in the Better Newspaper Contest.

Freestone County Times earning a First Place plaque for one of this year’s new categories: Public Notice.

In addition, The ‘Times’ received Fourth Place in both Headline Writing and News Writing.

The Mexia News brought home several awards, including Second Place in Feature Photography and Feature Writing; and Fourth Place in Column Writing and Headline Writing.

Corsicana Daily Sun earned Third Place for Best Magazine. Congratulations for The ‘Times’ former Asst. Editor, Megan Hempel, for her editing expertise with the Explore Corsicana magazine.

Palestine Herald Press was awarded Second Place for Best Magazine and Editorial.
