The Fairfield Eagles were swept by the Rogers Eagles at the Waco ISD Veterens Complex in the bi-district round of the state playoffs.
The first game began with the Riley Dolenger on the mound for Rogers. Luke Latham had a two out double, followed by a Kolby Adams double that would score Latham.
Rogers matched the Fairfield score with a lead-off walk and Lucas Guzman double setting up runners at second and third. Rogers earned a couple of walks to load the bases and the lead runner was thrown out at home, but the bases were still loaded. Rance Williams walked with the bases loaded and tied the score at 1-1.
Rogers added two runs in t he second and two more in the third before Fairfield began to get back into the game in the top half of the sixth inning. Zachary Phillips walked and Rex Bean also walked and both runners advanced to second and third. Noah Wilson singled to centerfield drove in two runs and Cameron Cockerell singled in Wilson to cut the Rogers lead to 8-4. Rogers would make a pitching change and get out of the inning but the Eagles were within striking distance.
The Rogers Eagles scored a run in the bottom of the sixth inning to stretch the lead to 9-4 and took the field to close out the game.
Adams had a lead-off walk and Karson Shipley had a one-out single. Phillips had an infield single to the shortstop to load the bases. Bean walked to score Adams and Shipley scored on an infield error. With two outs and the bases loaded, Rogers made a pitching change. Guzman would be slated as the game two starter and took the mound and struck out the final two batters to close out the game.
Guzman was the game two starter and would strike out 11 batters and allowed only two hits in a 14-0 win on Friday at the Waco ISD field.
Four Fairfield pitchers allowed ten runs in the top half of the fourth inning and the Eagle defense committed five errors in the loss that ended the Fairfield season.
