Fairfield Lady Eagle sophomore Shadasia Brackens earned a silver medal with a second-place finish in the 3A Girls High Jump at the UIL State Track and Field meet at the Mike A. Myers Track Complex on the University of Texas campus.

Brackens earned the bid to the state track meet with a regional jump of 5’5” and she would match her personal best to make the medal stand.

All jumpers were successful through the first two jumps and two were eliminated at 5’2.” Three more were lost following four jumps and three were left at 5’6.” Brackens jumped in the final three with Lexi Ivy of Denver City, and Kylee Willis of Breckenridge. Willis missed all three jumps and Ivy and Brackens moved onto 5’7” and both cleared the height without a miss. Each participant missed twice at 5’8,” however Brackens missed on her final attempt and Ivy cleared the height to win the event.

The Lady Eagles entered all three relays but none of the teams reached the medal stand. The sprint relay team of Addie Cox, Shadasia Brackens, Carsyn Cox, and Bre Dowell finished fifth with a time of 49.15. Cameron Yoe, Daingerfield and Bushland were the medal winners in the event. The 4×200 relay team of Addie Cox, McKinna Brackens, Carsyn Cox, Avery Thaler also finished fifth in the time of 144.78 behind Dallas Madison, Brock and Clifton.

The Fairfield mile relay finished eighth behind Goliad, Spearman, and Brock.

Bre Dowell competed in the shot put and finished eighth. Her best throw was 34-3.5 and Jillian Howell threw over 40 feet to win the event for Bushland High School. Lizbeth Fierro of Tornillo and Frida Alvarez of Edinburg Idea College Prep were the other two medalists.
