The Fairfield Lady Eagles fell in two games to the Lorena Lady Leopards in the area round of the state softball playoffs.
The Lady Eagles hosted the first game of the series and fell behind 3-0 in the first inning. Autumn Bell had an RBI double to take the early lead and the Lady Leopards had a run on a bases loaded walk. Alyssa Moore was hit by a pitch to score the third run for the early lead.
Lorena would score four more in the top of the second following a leadoff walk and Alexis Nava hit a two-run homerun to deep centerfield and Lorena had control of the game at 7-0.
Fairfield would get on the board in the home half of the fourth inning. McKinna Brackens homered to centerfield and Pfleeger singled to left.
Lawley walked and Carsyn Cox singled up the middle to load the bases. Madox Mitcheal had a single down the left field line to score Pfleeger and Addie Cox hit a sacrifice fly to center to cut the lead to 9-3.
It was evident that some of the Lady Eagles players were a bit fatigued. Brackens, Addie and Carsyn Cox were in the lineup and came from the state track and field meet. There were several ladies that made that trip and arrived back in Fairfield early afternoon.
Fairfield would plate one run in the bottom of the fifth inning to avoid the ten-run rule in the fifth, but Lorena would win the game 15-4 following six innings.
The Lady Eagles travelled to Lorena for the game two matchup and forced extra innings, however they would lose on a walk off single in the eighth inning.
Camii Wilson drove in a run in the first inning on a bases loaded walk. They would have a single run in the second and Mitchael drove in a pair of runs in the fourth. Lorena scored three in the home half of the sixth on a three-run home run by Nava to take a 5-4 lead.
Mitcheal had an RBI double in the top of the seventh, however they gave up a run to send the game into an extra frame. Lorena held the Lady Eagles off the scoreboard in the eighth inning and Bell singled home a run in the home half of the extra inning to win the game 6-5 and end the season for the Fairfield Lady Eagles.
