The Fairfield track teams qualified several participants for the state track meet on Saturday at the University of Texas campus in Austin. The Fairfield girls have enough available points to qualify for a team track title.
Fairfield will send multiple relay teams to the state meet. The Lady Eagle sprint relay of Addie Cox, Shadasia Brackens, Carsyn Cox and Bre Dowell finished second in the regional meet at Midway High School in Waco. Cameron qualified in front of Fairfield, which sets up a fast race in the state meet. The 4×200 meter relay finished third in the regional meet but qualified as the fastest of the third-place finishers and will be the ninth relay to run in the state meet. Clifton and West also will compete.
The Fairfield Lady Eagle mile relay finished second behind McGregor and qualifies for the state meet. Madox Mitcheal, Avery Thaler, Ava Grecu, and Shadasia Brackens will take a fast time to the meet and could earn a medal.
Sophomore Shadasia Brackens took the win in the high jump with a qualifying leap of 5’ 5” and will advance to the state meet.
Junior Bre Dowell won the shot put by more than two feet with a qualifying throw of 38’ and will compete in Austin.
The Eagles track team will advance one participant to the state meet. Tyler Smith won the 400-meter dash and will take a qualifying time of 49.59 into the state’s final meet of the season. He also took first in the 200-meter dash, just edging Dre’Lyn Washington of Hemphill. His 22.13 winning time will be enough to compete for the medal stand.
The Fairfield Lady Eagles can earn up to 80 points in the meet for the team title with first place finishes in all qualifying events. Check back in next weeks story if the Lady Eagles bring a state title home to Fairfield.
