The Fairfield Lady Eagles earned a berth in the area round of the state playoffs with a bi-district win over the Lexington Lady Eagles 4-0 in Madisonville Friday afternoon.
Kennedy Lane singled in a run in the second inning and Addie Cox and Camii Wilson each had RBIs in the fifth inning that plated three more runs. Cox had a double to the gap to score the first two in the fifth inning.
Carsyn Cox went the distance in the circle and only spread four hits over seven innings. She struck out seven and only walked one in the shutout win.
Carsyn Cox and McKinna Brackens had multiple hits for the Lady Eagles. They will play a three-game series against the Lorena Lady Leopards this week. The opening game of the series will be in Fairfield on Friday at 7pm and game two will in Lorena at 1pm on Saturday. If a third game is necessary, it will be played 30 minutes following the second game in Lorena.
In other games, the Wortham Lady Bulldogs earned a playoff spot with a game against the Bosqueville Lady Bulldogs. Bosqueville took advantage of timely hitting and a couple of shots powered over the fence and won the game 21-0 and advanced to the area round. Ashley Hebert ripped a double to the gap in the top of the fourth inning to break up the no-hit bid. She was stranded at second base when the final out occurred.
Each outfield position made solid defensive plays with running catches on some deep balls. Jorianna Mata, Hebert and Jodi Bond played their position well throughout the game.
Wortham finishes their season with some positive play and will return a young team to the diamond next season.
