Winners from the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo’s 2021 Quilt Contest were announced last week, with three entries from the local area receiving ribbons.
Ribbons were awarded in multiple categories, including Overall Best of Show, Best of Division, Best of Go Texan Award and Judges Choice.
The winning quilts are showcased in an online web gallery at rodeohouston2021.artcall.org/pages/web-gallery
This year’s Best of Show is a group quilt designed, pieced an quilted by members of the Houston Modern Quilt Guild, “Be Someone.”
This quilt was also selected Judge’s Choice, along with Sarah Hahn’s “Rusted Windmills,” representing DeWitt County, Area Go Texan Committee.
Best of Go Texan was Ann Moore’s “Pinwheels and Lollipops, representing Walker County, Area Go Texan Committee, and the Quilt Committee’s Choice was Judy Beskow’s “Bluebonnet Splendor,” representing Brazos County, Area Go Texan Committee.
Fifteen Blue Ribbons were awarded in the contest, including Freestone County Go Texan Quilt, “Feathered Star” by Cynthia Allen.
Ten Red Ribbons were awarded, including Navarro County’s Go Texan Quilt, “Lone Star State Flag,” by Katie Wiginton.
Seven White Ribbons were awarded, and two Green Ribbons, including the group quilt, “Seasons of the Heart” by Leon County’s Go Texan quilt created by Betty Maderia, Angie Turner, Pennye Lisle, Sydney Traylor, Mary Greer, and Mrs. Goodson.
