Congratulations to Ben Havens, senior at Wortham High School, for bringing home the gold medal from UIL Regionals!
The 2A Region 3 Conference was held April 16-17, 2021, at Panola College in Carthage, Texas. He won first place in Lincoln-Douglas (LD) debate which qualifies him for State next month.
In order to secure first place, Havens had to debate six rounds and beat out 15 other opponents.
Ben did not lose a single round, and he had “perfect speaker points” (which is the maximum) for four out of the six rounds.
This is the third time that Havens has qualified for State with the other two times bringing home the Bronze medals in State Congress Debate.
