Lillian Mozell Griffin Williamson passed away Thursday, February 25, 2021. Mozell was born October 12, 1927 the second youngest child of 11 children to Frank and Lilliam Griffin of Belton and Holland, Texas. Mozell graduated from Holland High where she played basketball in 1946. She and her husband JC Helbert raised 1 son and 3 daughters in Thorndale, TX.
She later married RJ (Slim) Williamson in January 1980. They enjoyed country living, dancing, adventures in raising race horses, rodeo, fishing, hunting, traveling, going on cruises, gambling and enjoying life and families together.
Mozell loved and enjoyed her Fairfield Community. Mozell was a founding member of Fairfield VFW Women’s Auxiliary, she was an active member of Cancer Support Groups where she enjoyed fundraising activities and participating in the Annual Fashion Show. She was a proud member of the Calvary Baptist Church where she served Lead on the Benevolence Committee. She especially enjoyed playing 42 with friends, Breakfast Club at Sam’s social meals at Ponte’s.
“Mother”,“Mom”,“Mema” and to our newest generation known as “Sweet Little Mema” will be remembered by so many for her expressions on her face, her hand clap, her optimism and excitement for others and their successes, her squeal when she would get excited about something like a touchdown, a homerun or a 3 pointer, the way she would come up behind you and rub your back, the way she was always ready to go, her story telling and the way she started saying stuff with “But you know” and her way of making you feel important like telling them they were her favorite, like our Aunt Pat being her favorite Daughter in Law! Mema had special relationships with her family, she was always excited to go watch her grandkids and great grandkids in football, volleyball, band, cheer, choir and whatever else she could participate in to share the experience and cheer them on. Her famous chicken salad, broccoli and rice casserole, cucumber with cream dressing, biscuits and gravy, and her strawberry delight were some of the favorite things she made for us that she knew we loved. Mozell was proud to be a part of the Annual Griffin Family Reunion Event held in July that started in the 1960’s.
Mozell was preceded in death by her daughter Debra Jean Helbert and husband RJ (Slim) Williamson. She is survived by her son Larry and wife Pat Helbert of Taylor, daughter Cindy and husband Charles Miller of Davilla, Daughter Mary Lou and husband Dennis Whitaker of Dew, granddaughters Melinda and husband Michael Kurtz of Holland and Cathy Sanders of Georgetown, grandsons John Miller of Pflugerville, Terry Hagen of Mexia, Brandon Hagen of Midland, Chis Hagen of Dew, Brett Helbert and Wife Jennie of Thorndale and Darren Helbert and wife Krysten of Taylor and 18 great grandchildren, Jordan, Garrett, Marissa, JC, Harlee, Reagan, Brody, Cooper, Trendon, Emily, Ethan, Audrie, Bree, Reyna, Chaynee, Chase, Kaylee and Kamryn.
