Memorial graveside services for Joan Lamberth Lackey will be held on Saturday, February 20, 2021, at noon, at Union Cemetery near Freestone. Bro. Don Jones will officiate.
Joan was born December 12, 1938 in Teague, Texas to the late Garland and Ruby Lamberth. She passed away peacefully in her home on January 4, 2021. Joan grew up in Freestone County and graduated from Teague High School in 1957. Upon graduation, Joan attended Sam Houston State University where she was inducted into the fraternal order of the “PhiLos” which later became the sorority of Zeta Tau Alpha. Joan later moved to Houston and began working at Tennessee Gas Company. She was soon married and had 3 wonderful children Kevin, Kurt, and Barry Granhold at which time she became a full-time mother. Joan was extremely involved in the boy’s lives as they grew up, including schoolwork, church, cub scouts and other activities. Joan and her family became members of the Bammel Road Church of Christ in 1972. She remained a faithful member of the church up until her passing. After the boys finished grade school, Joan worked for the Easter European mission, a Bammel Road Church of Christ mission, which supported spreading the word of God into areas like Eastern Germany which at the time did not support religious freedom.
In 1994, Joan remarried to Andrew Lackey, also from Teague. Joan and Andy have enjoyed a wonderful marriage and life together for the past 26 years. They went to high school together and today remain close friends with other graduates from Teague High School. They both enjoyed traveling and seeing new and adventurous sites all over the world.
For the last 50 years, one of Joan’s favorite hobbies was oil painting. She loved painting scenes from the outdoors including forest, beaches, animals, flowers, and pottery. She loved painting so much that for her 82nd Christmas (December 2020) all she wanted was art supplies for several new paintings she was eager to get started on.
Mrs. Lackey is survived by her sons, Kevin Granhold, Barry Granhold, Kurt Granhold & wife Kristyn; her husband, Andrew Lackey and his children, Caroline Kinnard and David Lackey; and ten grandchildren, Craig Muse, Bryan Granhold, Benjamin Granhold, Alexandra Granhold, Jenna Granhold, Haylen Hunter, Nathan Strickland, Rachel Feibus, Sean Lackey and Joshua Lackey.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Garland & Ruby Lamberth; one sister, Ernestine Mandeville; and William Lackey, son of Andrew Lackey.
Interment will take place at Union Cemetery at a later date.
