The Fairfield Lady Eagles began defense of their state title in November in what would be considered an uncertain season. What all are certain at the beginning of 2021 is that the Lady Eagles are still a dangerous team with an exceptionally talented group.
Fairfield won the title in San Antonio last spring and have dominated this season with a 14-2 record to begin the year. During a stretch in the early portion of district play, Fairfield did not allow more than ten points in three consecutive against Buffalo, Palestine Westwood, and Elkhart. They came close to repeating that with no more that 17 allowed during the contests this week.
The Lady Eagles hosted the Crockett Lady Bulldogs on Tuesday at the Johnson Activity Center and dominated the Bulldogs 75-12. They jumped out to a 16-0 lead and Tocorro Johnson hit a shot for the first Crockett points. Those two points would be the only two of the half for Crockett.
Eight players scored in the first period for Fairfield and led 26-2. Shadasia Brackens had a couple of baskets with a foul shot attached and Jarahle Daniels hit two shots in the period.
McKinna Brackens scored nine points in the second period and Breyunna Dowell hit three of four free throws. Shadasia Brackens added six points while driving to the basket and Essence Watkins was fouled on a made shot and hit the free throw. She would score five in the period. Fairfield kept the defensive clamps on and pitched a shutout and only allowed two points in the first half, leading 53-2.
Fairfield used several different lineups with starters and reserves on the court in the second half and continued to produce points and only allowed ten in the second half. McKinna Brackens scored 21 and Shadasia Brackens added 16. Dowell and freshman Avery Thaler scored nine and Daniels pitched in nine.
The Lady Eagles travelled to Groesbeck and defeated the Lady Goats 91-17. Shadasia Brackens and Daniels each scored 19 points in the district win.
Fairfield will host Buffalo and Westwood this week.
