Why is it that the cows will always stand in the middle of the ranch road when you are driving down it? They always stare at me when I am driving down and the closer I get to them, the more they stare! They won’t move until I think I am going to have to nudge them with the truck. Then, they take their good ole time moving off the road and out of the way. The calves are even worse. They don’t move off the road to begin with…they run straight down it going from side to side.
Wonder why they don’t seem to think that I could have the right of way? It even seems they are calling my bluff. On that, they win. Winter is coming and I feel sorry for them, especially the calves. It is so hard on them, they lose weight, they look sad, and I think it is too bad that we don’t have a big barn like they have up North. In the winter they bring their cows and calves inside the barn when the weather gets really bad.
The one thing The Colonel still does is roll out the hay bales so the calves have some place to hunker down and stay as warm as possible. The other day when it was so windy and in the 40’s I saw one of the Mommas lying in the hay just like the calves do. The Red Oak Ranch has some cows that are strange acting from time-to-time!
