It was a quick and rather cheerful meeting for Freestone County Commissioner’s Court on Wednesday, November 4, 2020.
Erin Davis, Extension Agent-Ag/NR, informed the court that most livestock shows are going forward next year, some reduced, but that Ft. Worth had canceled.
At the time of the meeting, Houston had not made a decision, but Davis did learn after the meeting that they will be still holding the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo.
There will be Junior Shows only and some contest, but the open shows have been canceled.
In December there will be eight CEU’s at Round Prairie Baptist, as of the meeting they were waiting on approval from the Texas Department of Agriculture, but do expect it to come through.
CRF Grant funds to contract an outside vendor, document pros, $49, 149 to scan all the old records, eliminating the handling of documents and limiting the spread of COVID-19.
In addition, $18, 447 was awarded to Faith Academy of Freestone out of the CRF Grant funds for the purchase of laptops, chromebooks and projectors.
The Forest Service Grant for firefighter gear was approved. The county pays upfront and the grant will reimburse about 90%.
Fairfield Fire Chief Chandler Baggerly said that it will come in around mid $16k, with the county getting back around $15K.
The Allen Family Charity Golf Tournament donated $750 to the Freestone County Sheriff’s Office, Sheriff Jeremy Shipley said, “Perfect timing cause we had a few body cameras that went down in one week.”
Additionally the Sheriff’s Department received a donation of $750 from Calpine.
Sheriff Shipley expressed much gratitude in having received both donations.
The court and others expressed how much they appreciated the hard work put in by the counties Election Officials.
Results were out before 10:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 3, 2020, far earlier than anticipated.
