The trees are turning such beautiful colors! We have an Oak that is absolutely stunning (to us anyway). It is a brilliant golden color and shaped so pretty. We have had someone mowing the pastures for us the last week or so and the pastures are looking beautiful again. Fall is a wonderful time of the year. It is the favorite season of The Colonel. Today, as we drove through the North East pasture, we stopped long enough to see Lucinda’s newest baby. It is wonderful to look at the baby of a calf you raised because the Momma dies. I often wonder how they know how to take care of the babies they have…I guess it is just intuition.
Lucinda was always such a good calf and didn’t cause too much trouble except one time. She still comes at the call of her name but today when we stopped to see her calf, I got out of the truck to take a picture of them. The calf of course kept moving around not knowing me as she was just born today! On the third picture I was trying to take, Lucinda got up and she took her calf off to the herd. The Colonel said she remembered what we did with her first calf. We took it on a trip to Buffalo. I told him I didn’t believe that for a minute. I am looking forward to watching this calf grow up.
It seems almost too soon for it to be Fall with Christmas closing in on its heels. I am thinking it will be a different Thanksgiving and Christmas but enjoyable ones with family. The kids are all growing up much too soon. The Red Oak Ranch will survive however!!
