Funeral services for Jesse Haynes, 81, will be held on Saturday, October 31, 2020, at 2:00 p.m. at Oakwood United Methodist Church in Oakwood, TX. Bro. Richard Dahlgren will officiate. Pallbearers will be Tom Wadsworth, Ben Wadsworth, Mike Cockerham, Wesley Cockerham, Ayden Adams, Corbin Smart, Terry Gibson and Walt Stacks.

Interment will be held on Sunday, November 1, 2020, at 2:00 p.m. at Trickham Cemetery in Trickham, TX.

Visitation will be Friday, with the family present, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Bowers Funeral Home in Teague.

Jesse Haynes, 81, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 28, 2020 with his family by his side at Baylor Scott & White Hospital in Temple, TX.

Jesse Haynes was born in Trickham, TX on August 16, 1939 to J. R. and Helen Haynes. Jesse grew up on a farm in Trickham, the second oldest of six brother and sisters, where his love for the land and livestock was formed. As a teenager, Jesse loved raising, grooming, and showing sheep at the 4H and FFA shows. He was a standout football player and graduated from Santa Anna High School and earned a football scholarship to McMurry College and later attended Cisco Jr. College. He worked for George D. Rhone Company for many years. He was a master carpenter and spent many years building houses and doing construction in Coleman. After moving to Fairfield, he worked on building First Baptist Chruch and other building projects in the area. He also worked on building the Cameron Park Zoo in Waco and made cabinets for the State Capitol Building in Austin. He graduated from Navarro Jr. College with an Associate’s Degree and completed his seminary training at SMU. He pastored at several small churches before becoming pastor the past seventeen years at Oakwood United Methodist Church and Laneley United Methodist Church. Jesse loved raising longhorn cattle with his son-in-law (Mike) along with farming. Jesse also loved participating running the clock during the Oakwood football games and being involved in the community. He also loved teaching everyone about the love of God. Jesse met his wife Nancy during college at Cisco Jr. College. He changed her flat tire in exchange for a date with her. Jesse and Nancy married on June 13, 1959.

Jesse is survived by his wife Nancy of 61 years, his beloved daughters Lorri Wadsworth & husband Tom of Abilene, TX; Lynne Holloway & husband Roger of Nettleton, MS; and Leslie Cockerham & husband Mike of Teague, TX; three brothers, Roy Haynes, Lyndon Haynes & wife LaVelle, Weldon Haynes; three sisters, Ginger Graham & husband Herbert, Kay Hays & husband Tom, and Mary Bordeaux; seven cherished grandchildren, Jennifer Sullivan & husband Rusty, Lauren Wadsworth, Ben Wadsworth & wife Taylor, Robin Wadsworth, Stephanie Coker, Megan Cockerham and Wesley Cockerham & wife Joahnen; four precious great-grandchildren, Jackson Sullivan, Shelby Sullivan, Ayden Adams and Whitney Wadsworth and a host of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, J.R. and Helen Haynes.
