Coming up the drive-way the other day I saw a Fawn standing in the road. It stood so still I thought it can’t believe its eyes or else it was very brave. I slowed the truck the closer I got to the baby and wondered why it was there all by itself. Well, to my surprise, suddenly up popped a head, then another and then two more and finally the last two. They all took off at an amazingly fast pace. I just sat in the truck and watched them run so gracefully and jump over what they considered obstacles without seeming to slow their pace one bit. All-in-all there were seven. We have been seeing three around the ranch and know that there are more in the back pastures but the seven this close to the house was amazing and fun. Amazing because of the Beagles barking at them every time they move!

The Colonel is convinced the reason we have so many deer is that they feel safe here and I have to agree with him. Then I have to relive the story of Bambi and how she fit right in with the cows, moving from pasture to pasture with them, eating with them, and resting with them. I will never forget when she came back with her little one and came up close to the house as if to say look at my little family. Nature is in abundance here at the Red Oak Ranch and we not only appreciate it, we protect it.
