Funeral services for Betty Ruth Campbell Edwards, 89, will be held on Friday, July 24, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. at Bowers Funeral Home in Teague. Bro. Carl Clark will officiate. Interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 23, 2020, with the family present, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Ms. Edwards passed away on Wednesday, July 22, 2020 at her residence in Teague.
Betty Ruth Edwards was born on May 2, 1931 in Forrest Glade to parents, Steve & Cleona Campbell. She lived in Tehuacana and at the age of 11 she moved to Teague.
Ms. Edwards graduated from Teague High School Class of 1948 and in December of that year she married Sammy Ray Edwards. She worked as an EMT for Teague General Hospital and the ambulance service for many years. Later she worked for Carol’s Answering Service and the Pottery Plant in Teague. Ms. Edwards was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She enjoyed raising cattle and horses and doing ranch work, but most of all loved taking care of her family. Ms. Edwards was a member of First Baptist Church.
She is survived by her two children, Rita Edwards McAlpine, and Steve Edwards & wife Garva; eleven grandchildren, Tonya Pickens & husband Clint, Angela Ielati & husband Angelo, Steven Ray Edwards, Jr. & wife Dana, Michael Cody Edwards, Aaron Casey Edwards, Glynn McAlpine & wife Stella, Preston McAlpine & wife Haley, Charles McAlpine, Ashley Kiser Fish & husband Jeremy, Kasey Kennedy & husband Monte, and Angie Wilson; a host of great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren and extended family; and special friends, Evaughn Cox, Jean Posey, and Lynn (Pee Wee) McAlpine.
Ms. Edwards was preceded in death by her husband, Sammy Ray Edwards; one daughter, Sammie Ruth Edwards; her parents, Steve & Cleona Campbell; son-in-law, Jim McAlpine; one great-great-granddaughter, Brooklyn Grace McLelland; and special friend, Nona Faye Hartless.
